Swedish banks

The banking sector is large in Sweden compared to the GDP of the country. Competition on the Swedish market is limited by 4 major oligopolies.  Banks in Sweden includes the big four:

  • Nordea Bank AB
  • SE banken AB
  • Svenska Handelsbanken AB
  • Swebank AB

The Swedish banks have traditionally set aside minimal capital for loans to home mortgages and it is possible to get home loan by 20 banks.

Now they must secure more capital according to the regulator and they are building  up a stabilization fund.(Finansinspektionen) and the Swedish Riksbank. Banking and financial services are exempt from VAT.  Yield requirements for banks from bank owners is approx.15%.
